A trip to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2017 will also provide audiences with the unbeatable opportunity to witness the classic Broadway musical 42nd Street as the popular show returns to the West End. Under the direction of one of the musical’s writers, Mark Bramble, and featuring a whole host of performers, this will be a spectacular that you will not want to miss.

If you’re still not convinced, then consider that this features some toe-tapping songs, like I Only Have Eyes For You and We’re In The Money, and also earned a Laurence Olivier Award alongside numerous Tony Awards during its lifetime.

42nd Street introduces us to the character of Peggy Sawyer as she embarks on the journey of a lifetime. She is a small town girl who has swapped her home for the bright lights of New York City, where she has found herself in Broadway. There she has a chance at stardom as she works in a chorus line for a top show, only for the lead star to pull out due to injury. It might fall upon her to rise to the challenge and take her place in the spotlight.

Along the way we hear musical numbers ranging from those mentioned above to other classics like Lullaby Of Broadway and Dames, amongst others.

Mark Bramble, director, penned 42nd Street alongside Michael Stewart and it was first released to great success in the 1980s. It played at the Winter Garden Theatre and earned Tony Awards in the process. It then opened at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1984 with Catherine Zeta-Jones amongst the cast members. That too won an award, with the 1984 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical proving its credentials.

Bramble would also have success with the show Barnum and penned Fat Pig and The Grand Tour, amongst other shows, and also previously directed 42nd Street when it was revived on Broadway in 2001.

But now it returns to the West End and it is certain to attract a new generation of eager fans when it plays at its original home of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. It opens at the Theatreland venue on Tuesday 4th April 2017 (with previews from Monday 20th March 2017).
