When it comes to popular musicals, audiences can’t get enough of the songs of some famous popstars, whether it’s Michael Jackson’s hits in Thriller Live or the back catalogue of ABBA in Mamma Mia! But they are definitely in for a treat from January 2019 as 9 To 5 The Musical makes its way to the West End’s Savoy Theatre.
With 9 To 5, Dolly Parton provides the music and lyrics, with Patricia Resnick penning the book, and the result is something that has been taking the world by storm ever since it debuted on the big screen and then on the stage in the United States in 2008. So as it lands in the West End, make sure you are first in line!
The story focuses on the characters of Doralee, Voilet and Judy, three women who have decided to take matters into their own hands following truly appalling behaviour from their boss at work. Not only is he a liar, he is also a sexist bigot, and pretty soon they will have apprehended him and taken over the company, with interesting results!
But that’s not all; this being a Dolly Parton musical, audiences can also expect some great musical numbers. These include Heart To Hart, One Of The Boys, Backwoods Barbie and 9 To 5, amongst a host of others.
The cast includes Louise Redknapp, Brian Conley, Amber Davies and Natalie McQueen and these will be familiar performers for audiences headed to the Savoy Theatre. Redknapp will be recognisable to audiences that grew up listening to the band Eternal or her solo records under the name Louise. Brian Conley, meanwhile, has enjoyed a television and stage career, the latter taking him to shows like Hairspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre and Barnum on a UK tour. So these performers have plenty of experience to bring to their roles at the Savoy Theatre.
So having made big impressions around the world, in locations like Los Angeles, New York and Brazil, 9 To 5 The Musical now makes a welcome appearance in London’s West End. The fantastic musical production runs at the Savoy Theatre from Monday 28th January 2019.
