We’ve seen her take to the stage as a comedian, appear on our television screens in her popular sitcom and make numerous appearances on television dramas. Now, Miranda Hart takes the next step in her successful career as she takes to the stage of the Piccadilly Theatre in Annie The Musical.

The world’s most famous orphan returns to the stage in 2017 with Hart taking on the role of orphanage owner Miss Hannigan and working under the direction of Nikolai Foster. Taking up the stage left behind by the outgoing Jersey Boys, it will be the perfect antidote to audiences missing that celebration of Frankie Valli, with a classic story making a welcome return.

After all, we all know the story of Annie! Taking audiences back in time to the New York of the 1930s, we meet the world’s most famous orphan child who resides at the institution of Miranda Hart’s Miss Hannigan. The main aspect of the plot deals with a Christmas that she will never forget when she is invited by billionaire Oliver Warbucks to spend the holiday season at his home. It will be a wonderful opportunity to witness a completely different way of life – as long as the horrible Miss Hannigan doesn’t ruin it.

Making her debut in a 1920s comic strip, the character of Annie has taken audiences by storm across the last century, spawning the hit Broadway musical in the 1970s, the iconic film of the 1980s and, more recently, another film starring the likes of Jamie Foxx. It is clear that audiences can’t get enough of Annie and this is going to be reflected in this latest staging of the classic musical in London’s West End.

It was first seen here in 1978, playing at the Victoria Palace Theatre, and today it takes pride of place at the Piccadilly Theatre and introduces a new generation of audiences to some classic songs like Hard Knock Life and more.

And with Miranda Hart in a lead role this is bound to attract a large crowd of keen fans.

Annie The Musical runs at the Piccadilly Theatre from 5th June 2017 (previews from 23rd May 2017).
