One thing that will never be banned at the Peacock Theatre is dance and it proves it this September as it welcomes the monumental hit show Footloose for a brief run of shows that will leave audiences breathless.
A small town that bans dancing and a young man who defies the rules provides the memorable story for a show that has taken the world by storm ever since it first emerged in 1984 as a hit film starring Kevin Bacon. Over a decade later the stage version was first seen on the other side of the Atlantic and the rest is history.
Having made its West End debut at the Novello Theatre in 2006, Footloose returns to the West End where it will provide a memorable evening of great song and dance, with Gareth Gates playing the part of Willard.
With songs like the title track Footloose and more 80s classics, the show offers a vibrant story following the character of Ren McCormack, a keen dancer, as he moves from Chicago to the small town of Bomont. Dancing is banned in his new hometown and if he wants to bring the community round to his way of thinking he is going to have to use his dancing style to his advantage. But his moves put him at odds with the town’s authorities and as such we witness some memorable confrontations.
As well as Gareth Gates, the cast is also set to include Maureen Nolan (of The Nolans fame) as Vi Moore, with Racky Plews directing.
Footloose opens at the Peacock Theatre, the West End outlet of North London’s Sadler’s Wells, on Tuesday 12th September 2017.
