  • Judy! - Arts Theatre

It is time to celebrate the work of Judy Garland as the Arts Theatre welcomes this wonderful show about the life of the iconic star. The show cements the capital’s status as a home for many such celebratory shows, from Thriller Live (honouring Michael Jackson) at the Lyric Theatre to Mamma Mia! (honouring ABBA) at the Novello, and makes the West End the place to be this summer.

Brought to us from the mind of Ray Rackham, Judy! will give us three performers who portray Garland at different points in her life, giving us a positive and inspirational look at the world inhabited by the legendary star. They are Lucy Penrose, Belinda Wollaston and Helen Sheals, who play Young Judy (in the cusp of movie stardom), Palace Judy (catching up with her as her career roars along) and CBS Judy (exploring her later years) respectively.

As such we will get snapshots of an extraordinary life, with a band on hand as well providing us with renditions of some of her signature songs. All in all it will be a night to remember for audiences headed to the Arts Theatre.

But that’s not all. The show will also offer up some familiar faces, with those taking on the role of Judy Garland recognisable thanks to their previous work on the stage and screen. The trio played Judy at locations like the Southwark Playhouse on previous appearances in the capital, whilst Belinda Wollaston has also played parts on well known television shows like Casualty, Downton Abbey, Holby City and Doctors, to name but a few.

Together they will provide a wonderful evening of entertainment as Judy! runs at the Arts Theatre from Thursday 18th May 2017 (with previews from Tuesday 16th May 2017).
