It’s been in the West End for many years and just because its run at the Prince of Wales Theatre is coming to an end does not mean that its journey in the capital is over. “Mamma Mia!” is set to change ships in the Autumn as it transfers to theNovello Theatre, where audiences will have the opportunity to relish in the Greek setting and all of the stand-out characters in a brand new home.
The production has been running in London since 1999 when it opened at thePrince Edward Theatre, so it is not the first time it has changed to a new venue, and during its time it has become one of the most popular shows in town. It attracted so much attention that, in 2008, a movie version was even released with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, among others, taking on the lead roles.
But then it does feature a compelling and exciting plot with the music of ABBA propelling it forwards. The focus is on Sophie Sheridan, her upcoming marriage to Skye, and her attempts to find out who her father is before the big day. Narrowing it down to three people, she invites all of them, which leaves her mother Donna facing three old flames on the Greek Island on which they live.
Songs includes “Mamma Mia!”, “Waterloo”, “S O S” and more.
“Mamma Mia!” appears at its new home of the Novello Theatre from the Autumn of 2012.
