Ask someone to name some of the nation’s most prolific and respected playwrights of the 20th century and Harold Pinter would surely be amongst those on the list. During an enviable career that saw him pen some highly regarded pieces of work, he earned countless fans and ensured a lasting legacy that will continue well beyond his death a decade ago.
It is that 10-year anniversary that is marked with the Pinter At The Pinter Season at the Harold Pinter Theatre, which sees a host of his one-act plays take to the stage at the historic West End venue in double, triple and quadruple bills.
One such double bill features both Landscape and A Kind Of Alaska, which star Tamsin Greig during the season and which is directed by the acclaimed Jamie Lloyd (whose company presents the season). It will be an unbeatable opportunity to celebrate an acclaimed playwright whilst also experiencing the work of two of the nation’s top theatrical talent.
Landscape is a 1969 play from Pinter that introduces us to the characters of Duff and Beth, husband and wife, as they try and fail to communicate with one another after many years of marriage. It has previously been staged at the National Theatre and broadcast on the radio, with many well known names taking on the lead roles.
A Kind Of Alaska takes us on another journey, this time focusing on Deborah, whose world is shattered by a decades-long coma, which she enters at 16 and from which she awakens 29 years later, leaving her with the body of a middle-aged woman but the mind of a teenager.
Actress Tamsin Greig will undoubtedly provide a gripping performance and this what audiences have come to expect from her thanks to credits like Black Books, Episodes and stage shows like Labour Of Love at the Noël Coward Theatre.
She appears in the double bill of Landscape and A King Of Alaska for the Pinter At The Pinter Season at the Harold Pinter Theatre from Thursday 6th September 2018.
