Whilst the Wyndham’s has been home to some stand out shows in 2016, including No Man’s Land with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, it sees the year out with this unmissable adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s acclaimed novel The Kite Runner.

Starring Ben Turner as Amir, the show is set to play at the West End venue from December and under the direction of Giles Croft it is bound to provide a moving and memorable narrative that has already had a profound effect on fans of the novel and its film version.

The story of The Kite Runner takes us through an Afghanistan in turbulence as we meet the characters of Amir and Hassan, friends who reside in the Middle Eastern country as it is on the cusp of immense change and upheaval. What begins with a kite flying tournament soon goes in a different direction and Amir and Hassan’s lives will never be the same. Taking us through many well known events that shaped Afghanistan’s destiny over many decades we witness as Amir faces great guilt and regret over a devastating event that is personal to him. It is a powerful story that deserves to be told.

This is why it has had a long life since it was first put to paper. The original novel was published back in 2003 and whilst that alone won over readers, even more experienced the tale with the 2007 film adaptation that was directed by Marc Forster and written by David Benioff.

But then came 2009 and with it a new adaptation from writer Matthew Spangler, which would head out to various venues worldwide before arriving in the West End in 2016.

One of many talented names taking on lead parts, Ben Turner is recruited to portray Amir. He is best known to audiences for his screen work, which includes television shows like Casualty and WPC 56, plus films like 300: Rise Of An Empire. However, he has also carved out a career on the stage so audiences might already have seen him in the likes of Maiden Voices From The Uprising at the Royal Court Theatre and Richard II at the Donmar Warehouse, amongst others.

The Kite Runner opens at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End in December 2016.
