The Play That Goes Wrong, following a run at the Old Red Lion Theatre and Trafalgar Studios 2 in 2013, is now heading to the Duchess Theatre for a longer appearance in the West End.

The production, which chronicles the chaotic attempts to put on a show at the Edinburgh Fringe, is presented by the Mischief Theatre company, which has been putting on shows ever since their first performance in 2008.

In The Play That Goes Wrong we meet the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, who has decided to take a 1920s style murder mystery play to Edinburgh as part of the annual festival. But , when it comes to this drama society, anything that can go wrong does go wrong in spectacular fashion. It doesn’t help that the leader of the group, Chris, has cast himself as director and in the role of the inspector, but the fact that real feelings between the romantic leads are prohibiting them from portraying an onstage relationship makes things worse. By the end of the show, it is clear that we have witnessed disaster after disaster.

Mark Bell is set to direct, whilst Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shield co-write the show and star alongside Rob Falconer, Dave Hearn, Charlie Russell, Greg Tannahill and Nancy Wallinger

Mischief Theatre has appeared around the country, usually with their regular Lights! Camera! Improvise! performances, though the company has also presented other shows in locations like Bristol and beyond.

So in a year when Bakersfield Mist appears at The Duchess Theatre in what is a very busy time for the venue, The Play That Goes Wrong appears at the West End location from Sunday 14th September 2014 (previews begin on Friday 5thSeptember 2014).
