If someone was to ask you for a story that has defined childhoods for generations of people; which has become an intrinsic part of our culture and has spawned countless adaptations since it was published as a novel, surely you would answer The Wind In The Willows.
Kenneth Grahame’s classic tale of the plight of riverside animals has earned admirers for over a century and the latest part of its journey will take place in London’s West End as a new musical adaptation takes up shop at the London Palladium. With Rufus Hound starring as Mr Toad and music penned by the admired duo of George Stiles and Anthony Drew, this is surely an unmissable West End event.
Mr Toad is just one of many iconic characters introduced to audiences in The Wind In The Willows. Grahame’s story, adapted to the stage by Julian Fellowes, takes audiences to the riverside where we also meet Ratty, Mole, Mr Badger and Chief Weasel whilst experiencing locations such as Toad Hall Manor.
It is sure to leave audiences speechless, especially as the events are amplified by wonderful songs penned by Stiles and Drewe.
After all, they have previously put together songs for numerous hit West End shows, including the recent Half A Sixpence and the hit stage musical of Mary Poppins. So audiences know that The Wind In The Willows is in safe hands with Stiles and Drewe.
They can also count on a great performance from Rufus Hound. After all the comedian, presenter and actor has made a big impression with previous appearances in the West End, particularly in shows like One Man, Two Guvnors at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Savoy Theatre. Audiences might also recognise him from his numerous television roles, which has included guest appearances in the likes of Doctor Who, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Celebrity Juice.
But now he returns to the West End once again to front one of the biggest new musicals of the year. So make sure you catch him and others in The Wind In The Willows at the London Palladium from Thursday 29th June 2017 (previews from Saturday 17th June 2017).
