A brand new musical that turns Shakespeare upside down heads to the Shaftesbury Theatre in London’s West End, featuring an array of toe-tapping musical numbers, some wonderful performances and a memorable story. & Juliet takes the classic tale of Romeo & Juliet and adds a new twist to events, adding to the narrative and taking the characters on a new musical journey.
The show has already been seen at the Manchester Opera House, where it delighted audiences in 2019, and now it is the turn of West End audiences to experience this delightful showcase of pop songs and Shakespearean characters.
In the Bard’s tale, the story of Romeo & Juliet comes to an end with the tragic deaths of the title characters, but & Juliet does things differently. It takes the form of a sequel to that original story, albeit a sequel in which Juliet lives instead of dying, adding a new dynamic to the character of Juliet and allowing the character to flourish in a new adventure and in new settings. Audiences will undoubtedly be delighted with the outcome.
The music includes a plethora of hits from the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, P!nk, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande, amongst others, ranging from songs like Hit Me Baby One More Time and Can’t Stop The Feeling to Roar and Break Free. These tracks come from the pen of Max Martin, a megastar of the pop music world, whose influence is far-reaching.
Cast members include Miriam Teak-Lee and Oliver Tompsett, amongst others. Both performers are well known in the musical theatre world and create unmissable performances on the stage of the Shaftesbury Theatre, which have to be seen to be believed!
& Juliet opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre in October 2019 and is booking at the venue until October 2020.
