2017 will be a stellar year for West End audiences and this is confounded with this unmissable Rodgers and Hammerstein revival at the London Coliseum. A semi-staging of Carousel is set to feature a stand-out cast at a world-famous venue and the results are sure to be world class to match.
Whilst Carousel was first seen back in the 1940s it has retained its status as a instantly recognisable show – a favourite of audiences around the globe – and there’s little doubt that fans will flock to the Coliseum to see names like Katherine Jenkins and Alfie Boe play the lead roles of Julie Jordan and Billy Bigelow.
These are the characters at the centre of a tragic romance as audiences are transported back in time to the 1870s and witness events unfold in New England on the other side of the Atlantic. They are on hard times, struggling to make ends meet and facing raising a child with difficulty and as the story unfolds we witness musical numbers that have become iconic, from You’ll Never Walk Alone to If I Loved You, with others like The Highest Judge Of All and What’s The Use Of Wond’rin’ as well.
Based on the play Liliom by Ferene Molnar it has proven to be a tried and tested story that has captured the hearts of millions. Now it makes a triumphant return to London with Katherine Jenkins and Alfie Boe bringing these tragic characters to life. It should not be missed.
The production runs at the London Coliseum from Friday 7th April 2017.
