The Young Vic cuts to the chase and presents this high profile show directly in the West End. The South London company chooses one of the most renowned plays of the 20th century, delving into the work of Tennessee Williams to revive the ever-popular Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. The first time that the show has been staged in the West End since 2009’s production at the Novello Theatre, this will be a must-see event that will leave audiences speechless.
For this production of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof producers look to the performing talents of both Sienna Miller, well known for a range of theatre and television roles, and film actor Jack O’Connell. They take on the iconic parts of Maggie and Brick at the Apollo Theatre as Benedict Andrews directs.
Maggie and Brick are just two of the iconic characters that have been immortalised in Williams’ 1955 classic. From Big Daddy to Big Mama and Gooper, they have all been portrayed by some of the leading performers of each generation.
It is the birthday of Big Daddy that brings a family together at their cotton plantation in Mississippi in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Maggie and Brick arrive and are greeted by the rest of the celebration, including the family doctor, and it soon becomes clear that there is a secret being kept from Big Daddy involving his health. Add unhappy marriages to the mix and you have the makings of a powerful story that chronicles a chaotic night in the lives of a family.
With that in mind it is easy to see why it has stood the test of time, spawning films and countless revivals in the West End and Broadway. But this production will be hoping for similar success all over again as it casts Sienna Miller and Jack O’Connell in lead roles. Miller will be instantly recognisable to audiences for her work in television films like The Girl and stage productions like Flare Path at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and As You Like It at the Wyndham’s Theatre.
Following the production of Travesties in early 2017, the Apollo Theatre welcomes Cat On A Hot Tin Roof from Monday 24th July 2017 (previews from Thursday 13th July 2017).
