Over at the Wyndham’s Theatre this October, a chance encounter will change lives as Anne-Marie Duff and Kenneth Cranham appear in Heisenberg: The Uncertainty Principle. It is a story of unlikely love here in London, with some well known performers bringing two strangers to life on the stage.
The production is the latest from the acclaimed Simon Stephens, who has adapted numerous scripts over the years to great success, whilst also penning his own work. It means that a list of his plays reads like a list of the more popular shows over the last decade, including the phenomenally successful The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time.
With Heisenberg, he presents a play that has already wowed audiences across the Atlantic, with a Broadway production turning heads with Mary-Louise Parker and Denis Arndt in the same roles. For the UK version producers have sought equally talented actors and the results are sure to be stellar.
We meet Duff and Cranham’s characters of Georgie and Alex on a train platform in London, where Georgie waits for the next service and Alex is another stranger in the crowd. But when she spots the older man she makes an unprecedented step, landing him a kiss that begins a life-changing experience. For audiences this will be a compelling journey as a couple with a 30-year age difference encounters something unexpected.
And the two actors recruited are sure to bring a wealth of experience to their roles, with Anne-Marie Duff having appeared in numerous shows at prestigious venues, like Cause Celebre at the Old Vic Theatre and Common at the National Theatre. Audiences might also recognise her from screen work that includes The Virgin Queen and Suffragette.
Likewise, Kenneth Cranham has also accumulated numerous credits, with his most recent London work taking the form of Florian Zeller’s The Father, which ran at the Duke of York’s Theatre.
So together they take audiences on a profound journey that will be remembered for some time to come.
Heisenberg: The Uncertainty Principle, directed by Marianne Elliot, opens at the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre from Tuesday 3rd October 2017 and then continues into 2018. It replaces the outgoing Lady Day At Emerson’s Bar And Grill, which plays over the summer.
