During the course of the 20th century a range of playwrights had a huge effect on the British theatrical world, but few are regarded quite like Harold Pinter, whose death a decade ago left an enduring legacy of wonderful work. It means that in 2018, on the ten-year anniversary of his passing, we can look back his career with reverence.
This is why the Harold Pinter Theatre is the home of The Pinter At The Pinter Season, as presented by the Jamie Lloyd Company and featuring double, triple and quadruple bills featuring many of the playwright’s one-act plays.
One such double bill is this one featuring both Moonlight and Night School, directed by Lyndsey Turner and Ed Stambollouian, respectively. They will inevitably provide gripping insights into the family unit and recollections, whilst also allowing theatergoers to experience the work of some talented practitioners.
Moonlight introduces us to Andy, his children Fred and Jake, plus his wife Bel as we explore memories, lost youth and the oncoming threat of death in a gripping an humorous story. It is a unique piece of theatre that will undoubtedly find new fans amongst the new generation of theatergoers flocking to the Harold Pinter Theatre, nearly three decades since the play was first seen at the Almeida Theatre in the early 1990s.
Night School, on the other hand, introduces us to the character of an ex-con, whose return from prison sees him come face to face with the person unexpectedly renting out his room. It is an older play than Moonlight, having first premiered in the early 1960s, and will undoubtedly round-off a great night of theatre.
Moonlight and Night School both appear in a double bill as part of the Pinter At The Pinter Season at the Harold Pinter Theatre from Thursday 6th September 2018.
