Over the years we have been lucky to witness some stand-out plays from writer James Graham, who regularly puts a magnifying glass to society with his work. This has been true for the numerous shows of his to appear in the capital in recent years and it is also true for his latest production heading to the West End.

Quiz, which dramatises the infamous cheating scandal of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? heads to the Noël Coward Theatre following its run at the Chichester Festival Theatre and all signs point to another success story for the acclaimed playwright.

The scandal on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? took place in 2001 when Charles Ingram, a former Army Major, attempted to cheat his way to £1million. The incident led to convictions for him and also for his wife Diana and an accomplice called Tecwen Whittock. It received a lot of news coverage at the time and exposed the lengths in which people will go to win at game shows. As such this dramatisation of the story (which is not affiliated with the actual game show) will ask audiences to consider such issues themselves, as well as demonstrating Britain’s love for the game show format.

Graham’s previous plays have delved into politics, the media and beyond as audiences have witnessed some familiar characters, settings and concepts. His recent plays Labour Of Love and Ink, which appeared in the West End in 2017, focused on a local MP and Rupert Murdoch’s acquisition of The Sun newspaper respectively. Meanwhile, other shows like The Vote and This House have also looked at the British political world.

His other credits include Monster Raving Loony at the Soho Theatre, The Angry Brigade on tour, Privacy at the Donmar Warehouse and The Man at the Finborough Theatre, amongst various others.

So this is certain to be one of 2018’s much talked-about productions as it delves into topic familiar and beloved to many in the UK.

Quiz, which is directed by the Chichester Festival Theatre’s Daniel Evans, is set to run at the Noël Coward Theatre from Tuesday 10th April 2018 (previews from Saturday 31st March 2018).
