This play headed to the Trafalgar Studios takes audiences back to high school to tackle some topical themes and concepts that people are dealing with in their day to day lives.
The play is Speech And Debate and it is the brainchild of writer Stephen Karam, whilst directing duties fall upon Tom Attenborough. For a memorable, hilarious and thought-provoking show audiences can’t go too wrong here when it opens in February 2017.
The show focuses on a group of characters in school by the names of Diwata, Howie and Solomon and the way in which they make a difference through a Speech and Debate team. They meet one another when a huge scandal rocks the school, involving sex and a teacher, and their team will help people make their voices heard (especially important as the annual play is on the horizon). With themes like homophobia and internet privacy on the line, the show is bursting with ideas and will likely be the source of great discussion.
Though this will be the first time that audiences have seen Speech And Debate in the UK, the show has been seen on the other side of the Atlantic on numerous occasions, including in New York back in 2008. It is the work of Stephen Karam, whose credits include The Humans and Son Of A Prophet, amongst others. Both shows have earned him numerous awards, including the Tony Award for Best Play, during a successful career.
So keen theatregoers are going to want to get a look in with his play Speech And Debate as it appears under the direction of Tom Attenborough at the Trafalgar Studios 2 from Wednesday 22nd February 2017.
