The West End regularly welcomes some well known names to the stage, whether it is in the form of a major Hollywood star appearing as part of the cast – as is the case with 2016’s The End Of Longing with Matthew Perry – or a well known movie being adapted to the stage – like Billy Elliot the Musical.
A few years back a show fitting the latter category made a big entrance at the Adelphi Theatre as The Bodyguard found a new audience in the West End. Now it returns, this time at the Dominion Theatre, where it welcomes back Beverley Knight to the role of Rachel Marron.
The Bodyguard takes audiences on the romantic journey first explored with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in the early 1990s. The former played a singer called Rachel Marron on the big screen and the later portrayed her bodyguard Frank Farmer. Both parties are brought together as professionals at first but during the course of the show we witness a blossoming romance that is effortlessly brought to life once again by the current cast at the Dominion Theatre
But that’s not all; The Bodyguard is also known for its stand-out musical numbers and this includes the fantastic Whitney Houston hit I Will Always Love You, though it also features other hits from Houston’s discography like I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) and I’m Every Woman, amongst others.
Beverley Knight played Marron at the Adelphi Theatre and in recent years she has been building up an impressive list of stage credits to add to her already-impressive back catalogue of chart topping singles like Should Woulda Coulda. So audiences have also seen her in Cats at the London Palladium and Memphis at the Shaftesbury Theatre, ensuring that their journey to the Dominion Theatre from 2016 will include seeing a familiar face on the stage.
The Bodyguard is one of many blockbuster West End musicals that regularly attracts a big audience when it appears in the capital, eager to pick up theatre tickets and enjoy the show. Its run at the Dominion Theatre begins on Thursday 21st July 2016 (with previews from Friday 15th July 2016).
