Audiences wishing to see world-famous actor Matthew Perry performing live onstage will be in their element in 2016 as the Friends star, well known for playing Chandler Bing from 1994 to 2004, brings his new play The End Of Longing to the Playhouse Theatre.

In addition to penning the script, Perry is set to take on a lead role in the production, which looks at people entering their forties and asks if broken people need to remain broken. Described as bittersweet and comic in its press material, The End Of Longing will see Perry at his best as he performs under the direction of Lindsay Posner, well known for a range of West End shows like Harvey at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

The End Of Longing introduces us to the characters of Jack, Stephanie, Joseph and Stevie, who are about to embark on the next decades of their lives as they enter their forties. They spend time with one another in a bar in LA, with plenty of drinks involved, but then events transpire to force to them to look at their relationships in a whole new way.

The debut of Perry as a playwright is the next step in a long journey for the performer, who has enjoyed a long and varied career. Whilst his best known work will forever be that of Chandler Bing in Friends, he has also appeared in various other television shows like The West Wing, Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, Scrubs (in an episode that he directed) and his current US series The Odd Couple. His film work includes The Whole Nine Yards with Bruce Willis, Three To Tango with Demi Moore and 17 Again with Zac Efron, amongst others.

Meanwhile, Lindsay Posner’s work has been felt around the capital for some time. The director of Olivier Award-winning work, he regularly presents plays in the capital, including 2015 shows like Harvey, plus Communicating Doors at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Dinner With Saddam at the same venue. He is also the director of Sexual Perversity In Chicago at the Comedy Theatre (now the Harold Pinter Theatre) in 2003, the last time that Perry took to the stage in the West End.

One of many shows to feature a well known star of the screen in 2016 (with Glenn Close amongst the others as she appears in Sunset Boulevard), The End Of Longing runs at the Playhouse Theatre from Thursday 11th February 2016 (previews from Tuesday 2nd February 2016).
