Over the years the Young Vic has been the home of innovative shows and this has been true in 2018 as it has provided the stage for American writer Matthew Lopez and his play The Inheritance, which takes audiences to New York City as we follow the intersecting stories of those in the city’s gay community.

That show has impressed critics and audiences alike and with that in mind it is no wonder it has now been chosen for the latest production to set up shop at the West End’s Noël Coward Theatre. It will run at its new home from September 2018 with cast members like Kyle Soller retaining their roles and direction provided by the acclaimed Stephen Daldry.

The Inheritance introduces us to members of the gay community in New York, including Eric, a young gay Jewish man who must navigate a new world in a city that has previously been ravished by the AIDS crisis.

Soller plays Eric alongside Andrew Burnap as Toby, with other returning cast members like Robert Boulter, Hugo Bolton, Hubert Burton, John Benjamin Hickley, Paul Hilton, Samuel H Levine, Syrud Lowe, Michael Marcus and Michael Walters. Audiences will also be interested to know that Vanessa Redgrave also reprises her small role for the West End transfer.

Writer Matthew Lopez has penned an array of well-received shows over the years and whilst it has been staged in London before, his best known productions have been stateside, such as the New York production The Whipping Man.

With The Inheritance he has found huge success in the UK, however, particularly with such an impressive cast and creative team. Kyle Soller, for example, has previously tread the boards of the Young Vic Theatre, with other credits including TV’s Poldark, plus Hedda Gabler and Edward II at the National Theatre, Long Day’s Journey Into Night at the Apollo Theatre and The Faith Machine at the Royal Court Theatre.

So in what is a busy year for the Noël Coward Theatre – as both Quiz and The Lieutenant Of Inishmore both appear – The Inheritance runs at the West End venue from Saturday 13th October 2018 (previews from Friday 21st September 2018).
