2019 is bringing a whole host of top names to the capital, with Hollywood celebrities and British talent vying for attention across a range of West End productions. The Noël Coward Theatre will be joining the action in the summer as Tennessee Williams’ classic play The Night Of The Iguana welcomes Clive Owen and in doing so provides a familiar face for audiences witnessing this tale set in a run-down hotel in Mexico.
Alongside other hits like Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and The Glass Menagerie, The Night Of The Iguana has remained a favourite play for Tennessee Williams aficionados, who have seen it reproduced on numerous occasions since the 1960s and it lands in the West End in 2019 with a cast that not only includes Owen, but also Julian Glover, Anna Gunn and Lia Williams.
The show follows T Lawrence Shannon, a disgrace former church minister, as he arrives in a run-down Mexican hotel with a tour group as part of his new job. Accused of relations with a minor in the group, those around him are turning on him and the play follows this as a spinster named Hannah Jelkes arrives on the scene and forms a new bond with Shannon.
Clive Owen is known around the world for his roles in critically acclaimed films and stage productions. From Children Of Men to Closer, he has portrayed a wide variety of roles whilst appearing in the likes of A Day In The Life Of Joe Egg at the Ambassadors Theatre and the stage version of Closer at the National Theatre.
And now he steps into the world of Tennessee Williams as James Macdonald directs him The Night Of The Iguana at the Noël Coward Theatre. It runs at the West End venue from Saturday 6th July 2019.
