Emilia Clarke is making her West End debut as Nina in Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, a profound and unique modernisation by Anya Reiss.

The story follows the enmeshed trajectories of several characters. A young woman who is desperate for fame because of what it can offer her, a young man who is yearning for the love of his life, a successful writer who wishes they could feel their success and an actress, struggling to fight against the changing times. It’s a story of isolation and desperation, set in a countryside far removed from the glitz and glam of the cities, where dreams seem futile and hearts are too broken to function.

Taking centre stage, is international star Emilia Clarke, most famous for her role in HBO’s Game of Thrones. She has since starred in blockbuster movies like Me Before You, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Last Christmas. This isn’t her first time in the world of theatre having already made her Broadway debut as Holly Golightly in 2013 Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

This particular adaptation of one of Chekov’s most beloved stories The Seagull is by Anya Reiss. She made her debut at London’s Royal Court, becoming the youngest ever writer to have a play staged in the capital. She has previously adapted other Chekhov plays like Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya.

The whole play will be directed by Jamie Lloyd, the Oliver award-winning director.

If you want to see the mother of dragons perform a twisted tale of jealousy and heartbreak, do not miss your chance. Tickets are in high demand and cannot be guaranteed close to the production date. The Seagull is in London for 8 weeks only, starting March 2020.
