The Truth - Wyndham's Theatre, London

It’s already enjoyed a successful run at the Menier Chocolate Factory but now Christopher Hampton’s translation of Florian Zeller’s The Truth makes its way to the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre where it will undoubtedly captivate audiences all over again.

It is a great time to be a fan of Zeller’s work, with The Father recently appearing in the West End as well with Kenneth Cranham amongst the cast members and Hampton once again translating. This story, however, focuses on the betrayal and deceit at play within two couples, with performances from Tanya Franks, Alexander Hanson, Frances O’Connor and Robert Portal.

Alice and Paul are both married to one another, but Alice is also indulging in an affair with Michel, Paul’s best friend. There are going to be plenty of consequences as Alice continues with her extramarital affair as the betrayal and deceit mounts. The show explores two couples and the complexities involved in these affairs...that is, until the truth comes out.

As for who is directing The Truth – look no further than Lindsay Posner. Perhaps regarded as one of the biggest names in British theatre, Posner has been behind some of the most acclaimed shows to appear in the capital over many decades. This year he has already directed Matthew Perry in The End Of Longing at the Playhouse Theatre, whilst 2015 saw him direct Harvey at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and Communicating Doors at the Menier Chocolate Factory. His other credits include The Winslow Boy at the Old Vic Theatre, Uncle Vanya at the Vaudeville Theatre and the Olivier Award-winning Death And The Maiden at the Royal Court back in 1991.

When The Truth appeared at the Menier Chocolate Factory it earned praise from critics and its success there has ensured this West End transfer is possible. As such it follows in the footsteps of a wealth of other shows to transfer from the Southwark venue over the years (other examples being Funny Girl and What’s It All About), proving that it is still a great place to gauge future Theatreland hits.

The Truth opens at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End on Wednesday 22nd June 2016.
