The Watsons - Harold Pinter Theatre, London
Age Restriction: To be confirmed.
Back by popular demand, this year we see Laura Wade’s smash-hit play The Watsons being transferred to the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre. If you’re a fan of Jane Austen, you simply can’t miss this critically acclaimed production that has previously sold-out shows night after night.
Laura Wade has been a professional playwright for over 12 years, and is best known for her play Posh which previously ran at the Royal Court Theatre, and the Duke of York’s Theatre. Plus, her recent hit play entitled Home, I’m Darling won the 2019 Oliver Award for Best Comedy.
Wade’s play is based entirely on world-renowned and adored writer Jane Austen’s unfinished novel of the same name. It picks up right where Austen left off, answering questions and exploring the narrative possibilities set by the late writer’s blueprint fictional world.
The story follows the life of Emma Watson, a 19-year-old woman who is a new face in town. She, like many 19-year olds of her time, wishes to be married to a rich man. Emma and her sisters live in poverty, so her desire to marry rich speaks to the length’s women would go to in order to live a better life.
As she has been cut-off from the financial support of her wealthy aunt, Emma must make an important decision between two viable suitors. Who are they and who will she choose? You’ll just have to find out.
Please remember that tickets are only available while stocks last, so quickly buy yours to secure your seats! They won’t last long if previous sold-out runs are anything to go by.
